Is Morse required for a license?

In the United States, Morse code is no longer required for amateur licenses. Many other administrations also dropped mandatory Morse tests. CW remains popular because it is efficient, gets through weak conditions, and is fun.

A practical CW skill floor

• Solid alphabet recognition (Koch path)
• Comfortable copy around conversational slow–medium speeds (varies by goal)
• Callsign and number practice
• Common prosigns and Q-codes
• Sending that other operators can copy
