Guides / Send vs Copy — Keying and Receiving Morse

Send vs copy

Copy means receiving: sound → character. Send (keying) means producing: character → sound with your hand. Many online tools only train copy. Real operators need both.

What each mode trains

ModeInputPrimary skill
CopyType lettersRecognition, listening attention
KeyPad / Space-Enter dit-dahRhythm, timing, “fist”

MorseTime policy

Same curriculum, same pass meters, mode toggle on every lesson. Default preference is Key for brand differentiation, but Copy is first-class MVP — not an afterthought.

Scoring honesty

  • Key: wrong dit/dah sequence clears the current letter buffer and counts a miss.
  • Copy: no mid-character backspace fix; wrong letter counts a miss (prosigns require the full name, e.g. AR).
